Duct tape and bailing wire used to be the ticket on the older cars. Throw in a pair of pliers and you could fix a lot of things.
I wouldn't even attempt to fix the new stuff.
Favorite but not obvious? Hmm. My favorite would be my air compressor, as I use it for putting air in tires, my paint gun, my impact wrench, die grinder, blowing all the crap on the floor out of the garage, etc.
Favorite but not obvious... Probably my Durametric scanner for my Porsches. Allows me to scan and clear codes, program settings for certain things, and has saved me a ton of money over the years vs going to the dealer for service work.
I have a couple of those headlamps that you put on your head to illuminate what you are working on and love them. The first time I saw my Son with his on I laughed, but once I tried one it really frees up your hands and you can focus the light where you need it.
The day I decided I needed one was when I was using a flashlight under the dash of my car and it kept rolling away from me. I borrowed my Sons headlight and then bought a couple of my own. My latest one is a very strong LED version that makes it like daylight when lit.
Or one of those bluetooth OBD dongles that you can use with the Torque app. View and clear codes. Display gauges not included with the car. Log runs. Good stuff for incredibly cheap.
A pick set. I have a set in my tool box, a set in my kitchen junk drawer, a set in my work tool bag and a set at my office work area. It doesn't matter if they are the cheap $.99 Harbor Freight picks or nicer ones, they are handy in so many ways.
