A 1959 silver chevy station wagon. That thing was a tank. Took my test in it. Did not have power steering.
Three point turn nearly wore me out Was not the vehicle to go cruisin' in that's for sure. Didn't last though, the floor boards rusted out and it was replaced in 1969 by a Ford Falcon
I guess I'm from a different generation... I grew up just glad my parents would let me use their car on occasion... I was never embarrassed.
Dad never owned a new car his entire life... money was tight raising 3 kids on one income and without health insurance...
Oh....evil Step-Mother never let me drive it...just for the driving test.
I didn't actually have a car to drive until I started dating my X, he had an orange Plymouth Duster.
1977 cougar. It was handed down to me after my Dad drove it through citrus groves for about 5 years. Just try to imagine how fun it was to drive to high school with the entire side sandblasted to bare metal by driving fast down dirt roads. The entire top was ripped because to dog tried to get into the sunroof when my dad was out of town.
My dad owned 3 at one point. In addition, he convinced two of his friends to buy them... so there'd be days, that 4 vans were sitting at home.
Oh cripes! I remember those loaves of bread on wheels!
Neat fact on the Toyota, Mitsubishi, Nissan box vans...
They stopped selling them in the U.S. after somone realized they were being imported as trucks (which the tarrifs were half that as cars). The U.S. said pay up or stop selling them, and that's what they did...they stopped selling them.
**Chevy Vega (orange with black stripes)
**Plymouth Duster (brown with some duster/tornado decal on the side)
**Mazda RX7 (I was so excited that he finally bought a cool car - until I saw the color - yes it was BROWN)
My parents had a both a Corvair and a crappy mid-60s pickup truck. The Corvair smoked like a factory. The pickup was a barfy sea-green color with rust patches all over it. My parents "artistically" covered up the rust patches with giant vinyl stick-on hippie flowers. I was mortified any time anybody saw us with that truck.
