This ^^

If a person was truly concerned with saving on gas, there are many other alternatives that cost less than half of that of the Tesla. Although I won't fault anyone for not buying the new Prius. That car is ugly as sin! Who ever designed it should lose their privilege of sight, and whomever approved it should be fired immediately!

natural gas or coal is burned at a power station, then sent to his house via power lines, then the electricity at his house charges the battery .... nice try , lol

A Tesla owner saying "lol oil" is commenting on the lack of need to use a non-renewable fuel source often bought from the middle east) to make enough power to launch 0-60 in under 4 seconds. It's also part of the push to get air cleaner in urban areas by removing tailpipe emissions from cars that are only getting dirtier every year they are in use.

There are lots of ways to generate electricity, many of them renewable. And as the grid rolls on, it's getting more and more renewables involved and replacing old power plants with newer, cleaner ones (like converting coal to natural gas). Making cars POWERED from the grid cleaner every year they are in use. We need to get off the oil standard for transportation, and drop demand down to manageable levels so that we import less of it. So "lol oil" means not being tied to that particular resource.

The battery (and car structure) is recyclable, unlike gasoline. And burning natural gas or coal at a central location is orders of magnitude cleaner than burning gasoline or diesel in a million separate point sources that are only getting dirtier every year they are in use. it appears you really don't understand the system.

Which is vastly more efficient than pumping oil out of the ground, shipping it in large dirty diesel ships to a refinery, using electricity to refine the oil into gas, and then shipping it in dirty diesel trucks to it's final location to put into your car and burned creating pollution every time you drive it.

Well to wheel it's a very dirty, energy inefficient process to burn gas in your car. Way more pollution generated than just burning natural gas to create electricity and then pushing that to your home.

There one around here that has the license plate COALPWRD. I find it pretty funny actually because even though we have a nuclear plant in this metro, we still get a bit over half our power from coal in the area.

Do you even realize how stupid this statement is? All you are proving is how unreliable petrol cars are, nothing on a Tesla breaks after a "few months". You can fill up your Tesla at home and get nearly as many miles of driving on a "tank" as a full petrol car. You can also top off your car each night at home, instead of always having to search for a fuel station.

Electric cars also have the benefit of much less maintenance on things like oil changes and break wear. So that translates to much less time being in the garage and more time available for you actually to drive it.

All good points, until the Tesla is $100,000 ... then it doesn't make any sense again..

I am hoping the Model 3 for $30,000 is a huge hit, that could really change things.

There are reasons to reduce oil consumption that aren't predicated on saving money.

If I was rich I would consider a Tesla. They're sleek, powerful, and good for local air quality. I can't afford one but the people who drive them are saving fuel that I can use.
