CC fees are usually 2.5 to 3% that cuts into the dealership profits.
$30K fee would be $900 not a small fee.
And many dealerships charge high processing fees for paperwork they are supposed to do anyway. You don't think that processing fee is not nearly 100% pure additional profit?
No, am looking at things from a bank/business point of view, actually.
To give someone unsecured credit in excess of 18k (or whatever large amount you paid for said vehicle or vehicles) is taking a huge leap of faith. Especially when recourse in case of non-payment and or default are few.
But as you say your CC/bank has no problems so that is that I suppose.
My Amex plat will clear a 50,000.00 charge and my two chase cards are over 25k each so it's not unheard of and my credit score is below 800
I bought a car with a cc many years ago. It was near the end of the year. My wife really wanted the new van right then, but I did not get my bonus check for two months. The dealer really wanted to sell the van right then, but did not have any two month finance options and there were too many fees involved to just pay it off after two months.
So I made an agreement to charge the van and split the fee with the dealer. It cost me about $600 or $700. That was a lot cheaper than renting the van for two months and my wife's old one was totally shot (we donated it to charity). No interest on the cc, so it worked out well. The van was either $38,000 or $33,000 I cannot remember which. I do remember the sticker on it was considerably more then $10K higher, they really mark up conversion vans, but then they unload them at the end of the year.
