I thought sales tax for a car is no different from sales tax on other products, i.e. the flat sales tax rate of the county. However, when I saw some sales contracts for cars sold in Orange County, California the sales tax rate was 9% when the sales tax on other products is 8%. Where is the additional 1% coming from? Is there a city tax as well?

Some cities/counties have a local tax in addition to state taxes. Not just in CA.

In Virginia, the Motor Vehicle Sales tax is different from the General Sales tax (lower). Sales tax on boats is less than either.

Do you have to insure them in business insurance? Then you can write off mileage?

In Florida, general sales tax is 6%. Counties are permitted to add an extra 1% on sales up to $5000 [$50]
Sales tax on $10000 would be $650

And license plates for life if the car is 10 years old or older! Buy a plate once, never pay another tag fee for as long as you own that car

You have to insure them in the name of the LLC, you can write off the whole expense of owning the vehicle (I think )
