I regretted it when I broke my left foot and the only car I had at that house has a manual transmission.

The last couple of Subaru Outback Wagons have had automatic transmissions. Once I learned the downshift delay using the shift lever I could drive on the snow and slush just a quickly as I did with a manual in an older car. I also have a 2004 C-5 Corvette and just leave it in D. If I want to go faster I just push on the gas. Sometimes it down shifts but mostly it just torques it way to fast. Both are great cars for what they are designed to do.

I've kind of switched between automatics and manuals my whole life. I like a manual if I have a nice car, it makes it more satisfying to drive, and I live having control of the transmission when I make turns and accelerate. However, I also like the luxury of being lazy with an automatic.

Manual transmissions are a pain if you need to eat or use the phone while driving... But none of us ever do that, right?

This isn't the forum to ask this question. According to the folks around here, driving a stick is the only authentic driving experience. I'm sure people would be afraid to post to the contrary.

Actually, although when I was 20, I'd say that I would never buy a car without a stick shift, now I much prefer automatics.

May of the newest designs have as many as 10 gear positions!

Look at the new Honda Odyssey: A Closer Look at the 2018 Honda Odyssey

Can you imagine rowing through 10 gears manually?

I've had manuals in the past, but now I only have automatics and I have no regrets.

Yes, semis have up to 18 manual gears...and will likely continue to do so until they replace not only the manuals but the drivers themselves with automated trucks.

What would there possibly be to regret?

I did NOT get a manual and do not regret it. To me they are a nuisance.

I miss driving a manual, but I am committed to owning a hybrid vehicle. I don't know of any hybrid or other reasonably priced alternative fuel vehicle that is available in manual.
