keep reading your post... yes, those are "male", have prongs that go into OBD2 port.

He doesn't want a USB that then plugs into the OBD2 port in the car (all the ones you posted), but one that plugs into the OBD2 scanner.

My scanner updates via a micro USB cable, rather than one that plugs into the OBD2 interface itself. In fact, I've never seen such a cable.

Are you sure that there isn't a micro USB port somewhere on the device?

Then he needs to clarify what he needs. No one can tell him what cable to buy, if they don't know what type of connection the reader uses.

I thought it was easy to figure out what he wanted by his description: connecting a USB cable to his scanner in order to update the scanner.

As far as I know there aren't any and if it doesn't have a microUSB port on the scanner then it probably can't be updated.

Even more reason to update to smart phone scanners and purchase a wifi/Bluetooth OBD2 dongle.

I have a pretty decent hand-held scanner I paid a lot of money for back in the day....and my $5 smartphone app with $10 dongle can do everything it can plus more.

So he either has 11 pin or 16 pin scanner MALE plug, like I have on my scanner. And he needs FEMALE scanner to USB cable.
Any answer is only as good as question asked.

Boston Mike, that's not always the case. I have two hybrids. I also have Torque on my phone. I had THREE different BT OBD2 adapters for that purpose and here's what happens - on BOTH hybrids after about a month of use, those start throwing VSC/ABS error code on display. 100% proven to be related to adapter use.
It is said, that same adapter but with cable to plug into OBD2 does NOT cause that error code.

Weird. I haven't had such issues with mine. I've also given my BT setup to friends to use and don't recall any issues. Who knows.

I've actually abandoned using the BT obd2 for a program called ForScan (which is Ford specific), which is a free, Ford-specific interface. I hook my laptop up to the OBD2 port with a cable, and not only will it pull codes, but I can troubleshoot various inputs and modules, as well as recalibrate window motors and sunroof open/close. As an advanced function, it will also allow me to turn off/on the factory DRL module, or add various hidden submenu's to the LCD screens (like adding engine hours to the settings menu...was only available on the police cars). Right now, I'm actually using it to unlock the Navigation of the MyFordTouch system.

My Actron OBD2 scanner collects dust these days

Weird or not, but it happens only on hybrids. Prius owners had same issue before me. Hybrids are so packed with electronics and computers that it's no wonder.
