I live in a very safe neighborhood, so I more than likely will never be faced with this problem unless I have to drive through a bad area for whatever reason. But I was really bored the other day and was looking up hoe to survive all sorts of things, and the last one I looked up was carjacking. I read that the least dangerous type of carjacking is where the carjacker tells you to get out of the car and then they get in it and drive away. Obviously in this situation, you can just give up the car and be ok. However, I also read that if the carjacker gets in the car with you and tells you to start driving, they more than likely want you to drive to a secluded place so they can kill you with no witnesses, so you should not listen to them. Again, I am sure I will never be faced with this situation, but what are your guys opinions on this?
If they want you and not just the surrender of your car the advice is to intentionally crash, fight back, or ignore instructions and drive into the most public area or ideally police/fire station.
If I thought he was going to cause harm to me anyway, I would ram the car at high speed into a pole and hope my airbag would save me. Pretty drastic, but better than being shot and killed.
The advice for any sort of encounter with someone trying to rape you, mug you, take your car, etc, is to never get in the car with the person (or stay in the car in the case of a car-jacking). Even if the guy is holding a gun on you, they say your odds are better to try to run and potentially get shot in the street than to get in the car, because then your odds of survival are even less. They say many criminals in such a situation would not attempt to shoot at you as you run, because by that point they are freaked out someone has seen the whole thing, and if they do, its unlikely most of them would have good enough aim to hit you.
It goes against most people's instincts to do this- the tendency is to follow the orders of the criminal ... but that is why acting in a way that they don't expect works to your advantage.
Too bad you live in a fantasy world where you think this will almost never happen to you..
