Now that oil prices have crested another heady threshold -- trading above $110 per barrel -- it's time for motorists to start contemplating another once-implausible scenario: pump prices of $4 a gallon.

Just cost more to fill up is all. If it is the work truck, I will need to adjust my prices slightly, but no real biggie I guess. Personal vehicle... I still have to get groceries, school activities, family activities, etc....

EXACTLY! How do groceries, etc get to the store now..hmmm, everything we buy will go up, up, up...funny thing, I saw a lot of fuel surcharges popping up after katrina...even when prices subsided the surcharges did not...once it's up it RARELY goes down.

At $4, I might seriously consider getting a buddy to go with me and split gas costs on road trips. Otherwise I more or less drive minimally: to school, work, occasionally to the mall, to pick up my sister. Sometimes I take a slightly longer way or go on a nice drive, but I don't think neither really contributes to my gas consumption. The 30 - 35 mi roundtrip each day for school and work is what really does it for me and can't be removed. There's no public transit here.

What's unfortunate is that we have a family business and the price of gas seems to affect how many customers we have.

I think it's $5 / gallon before drivers start seriously changing their habits, though.

This is the seventh thread just on the first page re-gas prices. I know it's a hot topic, but, come on!

I agree. I don't add it as a surcharge, that has always seemed deceitful to me. If I adjust my rates it is on a yearly basis. Gas goes back down to where it was a year or so ago, I just wouldn't adjust my hourly prices for another year.

Could be a biggie if folks decide they no longer can afford your work is all.

Don't know what you do, but there's ways around most anything. Example: I got sick of being gouged by HVAC guys at the apartments I own. So, I went to HVAC school and now _I_ am my own HVAC guy. I still can't believe the bucks I used to pay those boneheads for simple repairs!

And being a nice guy, I also help my neighbors with their HVAC problems....again, saving the work trucks lots of fuel.

BTW, I think we'll soon be looking back at $4 a gallon gas as the "good old days"...LOL

I just change my spending and make no unnecessary trips. It is about the same that I did in the 70's embargo but that was more of a problem in getting gas because of the shortage and long lines.
