I've owned diesels since Christ was a corporal. Honestly I'm quite tired of them. I work on them for a profession and it's silly to own one of you don't need one.

I have done extensive research on the models I'm looking at getting. But I would like to hear some first hand experiences maybe y'all owned both at one point and traded one in for another. I'm not brand loyal bit I do lean towards ford more. The trucks in question are listed below. This will be a daily driver.

12-17 f150 5.0
12-17 f150 3.5tt
13-17 chevy 5.3

for a daily driver i would go with the F150 5.0. its reliable, has good power, and decent fuel economy for a truck.

The 5.3 has been Chevy's go to engine for years. The one in my 13 is practically the same as in my brothers 01. Absolutely one of the best Chevy ever made. The 2013 is the last year for that body style, 14 started the new style. There were some issues with vibrations in the 14 and 15s that I know of, but I think the issues were resolved. My 13 averages 15 mpg. My 08 Duramax average 18. I cany comment on the EcoBoost or the 5.0 truck engine, but if the 5.0 is anything lie the Mustang 5.0, that would be my choice. I did have issues with my engine, but after a small disagreement, Ford replaced my engine.

I had a F150 with a 5.0 in my last service truck. It moved pretty good. 150,000 miles my lease was up. (Truck got 50k a year on it) The ONLY break down I had was a broken waterpump at 120,000 miles. Seems Ford bean counters decided a plastic wp impeller was a good idea.
Other than wear items I had no issues. Ride was nice. Not too firm no wallow or swaying. . This was a regular cab long bed.

For the Ford, I'd avoid the 2016 an earlier 3.5 EcoBoost. They are a direct injected engine only and have known issues. The 2017 and newer are direst injected AND sequential injected and that cures the problems with the defective direct injection design. ALL direct injected engines are defect design and not one auto maker in the world has been able to make it work right. That's why you'll find almost all have gone to the dual injection. The early 5.0's were a mixed bag. There were issues with the metallurgy and then they had issues with the crankshafts and head gaskets. The newer, the better with a 5.0. The 10 speed autos are a major issue with the newer ones. It's a clone of the GM 10 speed and they're a known failure in less than 30,000 miles. Shifting issues are also a known. The 6 speed Select Shift is what you want. Avoid the 2.7 which is the most common engine in the newer F150's. Issues abound with it and replacement parts are sometimes not available for months. It was not a clean introduction. You'll also find on the 2017 and newer the start/stop feature where the engine shuts off when stopped. It can be a PIA and with the F150, starters are now showing up as not being able to take the beating. Obviously, not every truck will have issues but you need to know that the F150, like most any other truck out there, has some issues that are common to many.

Thank you all for the input.. part of me really wants to get a chevy because I know the 5.3 is pretty much bullet proof just the rest of the truck is junk. Lo l. But there is alot of interrior features I like better with the ford ugh..

Im not worried about direct injection high pressure fuel.. outboards have been doing it for 20-30yrs and so have diesels.

As far as a raptor goes inhave those things I'm not opposed to the 6.2 I just dont like raptor. Same for dodge the hemi is trash. I use to think chevy ate alot of cam and lifters.. then the hemi was like hold my beer

I think they put the 6.2 in some other higher trim 150's like the Platinum and Harley. That's a good motor. I would stay away from DI-gasser motors like Trapper said if you plan to keep it a long time. Ask any guy with an Audi RS4 or R8 about that.

They did.. in my search I found maybe 3 and they wanted to much money for the mileage it had.

I've also tossed up the idea of a 2500 or f250 gasser that comes with the 6.2 l ( just detuned) and then the chevy 6.0 ( witch you can't kill). Me personally after diving a 3/4 or 1 ton diesel my hole adult life I dont think I would like a 1/2.

Here is a side by side for you (GMC not Chevy but same ole)

2013 GMC 2500 HD
2013 F150 6.2

I think the GMC looks nicer but is so far behind on the tech (like you said) It has heated seats, but the Ford has heated and cooled seats. The seats are just more comfortable for me in the Ford as well.

I have to use an Aux jack on the GMC where as the Ford has an amazing bluetooth system for audio/phone. GMC has nav, the Ford has nav system that has to be purchased via sync. All five of my cars have nav (Ford not turned on) and they all suck, my phone works so much better.

Cant compare ride on a 1/2 vs 3/4 ton.
