They are the driver's equivalent to a T-shirt slogan.
I am of the opinion that T-shirt slogans ought to be in mirror-image lettering, like "ambulance" on the front, that can be read in a mirror. Because the only person who thinks a T-shirt slogan is clever is the person wearing it, and printing it backwards will enable the wearer to read it while admiring himself in a mirror.
I want a bumper sticker that says "Professional Driver -- Do Not Attempt".
I only roll my eyes if they have a bunch. It's usually on an older, not in good shape car anyway. Don't eat me alive-but I can't stand seeing full-size flags on the back of vehicles.
I have never had bumper stickers, but I do have the "family stick people" stickers on the back window of my car. I thought they were cute a few years back, but I will never do it again!
Back in 86 when I was driving a 74 Maverick and 74 Pinto Wagon a friend (?) put a bumper sticker on both from Spencers that said "My Other Car is a Piece of S**t Also'.
In Florida where everyone is from Somewhere Else, there's a certain element of using them to identify your original tribe, often via a sports team sticker.
And one of our cars is a Subaru Outback, where they just seem to belong. The company even has its own 'badge' stickers you can get for free.
In addition to the badges on the back of the Outback, there are a couple that imply I grew up in Michigan, the obligatory National Parks one, and a 'Number 6' sticker from the tv series 'The Prisoner'

The bumper stickers are probably the only thing holding the car together. Be grateful they're not going down the road losing parts....LOL.
I bought a white 2013 Honda Civic two years ago when I still lived in California. There were tons and tons of small white cars in every parking lot. I bought one sticker to put on the back of my car so that it would help me distinguish it from all the other small white cars.
It worked nicely.
Then we moved to Wyoming. I probably own the only white Honda civic in our entire town. Everyone here drives giant trucks and SUV's. 😉
Some of the cars I drove in past years, had a few bumper and window stickers on them, when I got them. I never paid any attention to what they said. Then one day, a friend pointed out that one of the small stickers in the lower-right corner of the windshield, was from the NRA. I scraped it off immediately and was concerned about how many people might have seen it and thought I was one of them.
