I find the thought of buying a Walmart battery concerning.
We use Interstate batteries and have had very little trouble. About 2 1/2 years ago we had our mechanic install one but it failed just two days before it reached the full replacement two year mark. Our mechanic installed a new battery with no problem, or charges, as Interstate stood behind their product. It was well worth the few extra dollars.
Have you ever used Walmart's return/warranty policy?
$49 seem pretty steep for a bottom of the line battery. Around here, a 72 month battery costs $69. Typically, one will last about 9 years before it needs to be replaced.
I had an Walmart Everstart last about 6 months short of the warranty (something like 5 or 6 years). They pro-rated the battery, refunded my core and the replacement battery was on sale. They were done changing the battery before I finished shopping. I've put them in a few vehicles and they're good batteries. If you do a search, Everstart batteries are made by Johnson Controls, who also make AC Delco and Diehard as well as other battery brands.
Why? The EverStart Maxx is going to be the same battery you get everywhere else, just a different label on it.
Now the ‘Value’ battery the OP is talking about, I don’t know.
Maybe. I think the aftermarket is pretty much dominated by Exide and Interstate. Ford makes their own, and GM owns ACDelco. Imports mostly come with Hyundai, Sungwoo or Yuasa. Since the subject is Walmart, it's likely their cheapie is an import.

A tad bit of wandering information here.
Best to read up on who actually manufactures the batteries - not who markets or sells a brand.
Buy a $49 battery, get a $49 battery. I spent the extra bucks and got an EverStart Maxx. I'd rather not have a surprise at the most inopportune time.
I agree. I'm running 3 of the Maxx batteries, and they have been terrific. Never had one problem, and one that I just removed was 9 years old. It was still working great, but I was in there doing other stuff and decided to change it just because.
Exide makes all of the Interstate batteries. Johnson Controls makes pretty much everything else including Delco, Walmart, Sears, Motorcraft, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Honda, Optima, and if I listed all of them, there isn't enough bandwidth to post it. They are by far the largest battery maker in the world. But here is a linky to all of the brands Johnson Controls makes. Lead-Acid Battery Manufacturers and Brand Names List 2018
Living in the Phoenix area - I would never ever buy a cheap battery. They die on their own quick enough!
