Thinking of replacing my 03 Camry soon. I think I'm leaning towards a hatchback, I like the look of them and the added utility. Which do you think is the best hatchback? Personally I like vehicles with respectable driving dynamics good fuel economy and a decent amount of features for the price.

Golf/GTI. VW has been at it for decades and are masters at fun hatches.

Kia Stinger. Although it's slightly bigger than a compact. But if it has to be a compact, Kia Forte. You should be able to get a good deal on a closeout 2018. The Forte has been redesigned for 2019, and a hatchback version won't be available until the 2020 model year.

Driving dynamics: Mazda3, VW Golf, Civic with a wildcard for the Impreza for AWD.
Fuel economy is pretty similar if you exclude the hybrids which don't have driving dynamics

The ones I'd look at in no particular order:

Kia Soul: Value, good safety ratings, reliability, comfortable, lacks refinement and fairly boring
Mazda3: Driving dynamics, looks good, good interior, so-so reliability
Golf: All-rounder. Great interior, good performance, good mix of fun and comfortable, expensive, higher operating costs, VW reliability.
Civic: GTI performance for less (but not as tunable), reliable, practical, really ugly.

None of the above, buy a Golf Sportwagen or Alltrack. They are the same as the regular Golf but with 1 foot of extra cargo space and better weight distribution

All are good in each their own way. Depends on your driving style, functional needs, real world fuel economy desires. Since you already own a Camry I’d suggest you look at the Corolla hatchback. Others to consider in this line include Kia Forte and Hyundai Elantra GT. The Golf, Mazda 3, and Civic offer more fun driving. Look at all in person. Not all hatchbacks offer the same level of functional storage with rear seats folded down. Some have a more narrow opening and seat backs sit high when folded.

The Kia Soul is kind of a hatchback with high seating and great visibility. They really need to get a new design for such a good little car!

Do a Google search: CVT transmission problems.

Wouldn't get any with a CVT transmission at this time.

And yes, some folks state that they are great and trouble free.

Also, skip any that have a timing belt. Very costly to replace during normal maintenance. Get a timing chain engine.

Get a wagon. VW Sportback/Alltrack, Buick has a new Regal wagon that is sharp as heck.
