Used, up to $20k. I will be driving it from the Lehigh Valley area of PA to the eastern Adirondacks, every weekend. Need a crew cab for comfort for 4 people. I'll be putting BF Goodrich All-Terrains on them day 1.
I like the Tundra as I have good luck with Toyota's but $20k doesn't get you much. Any year/model that is particularly reliable and comfortable in the Big Three trucks?
As with so many things, "They all good, some's jus' better than others!"
Personally, I would go with a Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins 4 door. Mine is a 1999 Quad Cab (rear doors are half doors). I neither need nor want a 4 door cab. It has over 400,000 miles on it, and still going strong.
But, that's just me. Everybody who gives you a recommendation will be touting their own personal favorite.
If your personal favorite is Toyota, then shop around and find one.
Good luck.
2004-2006 Silverado/Sierra Crew Cab with the pre-AFM 5.3L V8.
2007-2013 Silverado/Sierra Crew Cab with the 6.2L V8 (doesn't have AFM)
2011+ F-150 SuperCrew with the 5.0L V8
Any year Silverado/Sierra 2500/3500HD with the 6.0L V8 (none of them have AFM)
2011+ Ford Super Duty with the 6.2L V8
Toyota Tundras of any year are pretty good, as long as the frame isn't rusted out.
I wouldn't buy any high-mileage GM truck with AFM (Active Fuel Management). I wouldn't buy a Ford truck with the 5.4L V8 or a high-mileage Ecoboost. I wouldn't buy a Dodge truck unless it was a 5.9L Cummins with the G56 Manual Transmission.

That's a good recommendation, however I'm hesitant to get a diesel engine. I'll be parking in winter where overnight temps could be -10 or less. I won't have an engine block heater. Also, some of the rural areas I'll be worried won't have diesel fuel. I do like the looks of it though

I like this option, small V8 well tested and reliable in the Mustang. Since I won't be towing anything at all or at least anything heavy for the foreseeable future, this should work....now to find one under $20k

Nothing small about the 5.0. And good luck finding one not half wore out for under 20 grand.
We have had a Dodge and 5 Fords since 1983. The Dodge Prospector was crap, replaced distributor twice, Fuel system replaced, fuel pump replaced, windshield wiper motor replaced, Transmission seal replaced, water pump replaced but still lasted 100,000 miles before the slant 6 began to have issues.
The 5 fords have been relatively flawless,
1997 F-150 Lariat, 4x4 4.6 V8 Supercab sold with 90K and no issues other than the customary door cracks at the curve in the door skin at the window.
1999 F-150 Supercab XLT, 4x4 4.6 V8 long bed, 195K (also had door cracks) and totaled by a texting teen in a Honda.
2002 F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 Lariat, 4.6 V8, 152K. A new computer (and windshield) when windshield developed a leak and dripped water into it. 4 Wheel Low went out about 3 years ago and I've never fixed it. 4 wheel high works fine. In service daily
2010 F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 Lariat with 5.4 V8, 182K. Replaced a fuel pump fuse/relay about 2 months ago. In service daily.
2017 F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 FX-4 5.0 V8 Platinum, 26K also a daily driver, flawless to this point in it's young life.
if you find your ideal truck for under $19,999.00: you are a super-genius.
trucks in our area are $50K new, and $30K beat-all-to-.....
