These are becoming Medium Duty commercial trucks but still if you need tow/haul in comfort these beasts will do it.

The new diesel powered 2500/3500's offered by the Detroit 3 are just awesome. I couldn't imagine what it is like towing with one.
I just ordered a new gas powered 1500 and it has close to the towing capacity of my current '05 diesel 2500.

A lot has to do with chassis strength, not just power train. A 2003 F-550 with the high capacity tow package was rated for up to 30,000 lb but it had limitations - you could ONLY get it with 2WD. But these numbers were with a 7.3L or 6.0L diesel. No more than 3xx HP and 5xx TQ.
