Flashback to a car rarely seen on the road back then. 1992 Toyota Camry LE wagon. Open up the rumble seats and it seats 7 passengers. 2.2L 4 cylinder 130 hp engine. This was the best generation Camry.
I remember seeing those regularly, they stood out as they were rather ugly IMHO.
Best Camry? Dont know about that. I had a 97 Camry, it was a pretty good car, a far better sedan than any 90s American car I drove. I still see many of that generation running around, the early 90s gen are just about gone from the roads. Mine was not as reliable as the reputation though, but got to 197K between me and my father in law. Wife now has a 2019 Camry, its a damn good car, way better than my 97 - but also way more complex that those simple 90s cars.

When I say best I mean one of the most successful and competitive in its era.
11.9 seconds 0-60. With just a driver. Imagine a full one of these with people and gear. God those 4 banger Camrys were slow. And I mean slow for the time, too.
The V6 completely transformed that car. It was silky smooth and fast for the day.

Keep in mind what was the competition at the time. Chevy had the Corsica and Ford had the Tempo for example.

I much preferred our '91 Camry wagon (and the sedan, for that matter). In fact, we have a 1992 Camry sitting out in the driveway. Bought it for our daughter's first car 19 years ago, and when she moved on, my husband took it over. (She wanted a pickup.) He also has a 2001 Camry which is delightful to ride in.
We tend to buy vehicles that aren't really worn in until 100,000 miles and keep them for at least 200,000-300,000 miles more. Mostly Camrys or (or Dodge diesels for pickups), though my 2002 CRV is pushing 250,000 miles and still humming along.
