Hey, I resemble that remark. I've been trying to break my 80" for months so I can get a 92" 4K. As for trucks, I do chuckle occasionally watching them try to park, but I have nothing against truck owners. In fact, I've found that what's even better than owning a truck is having a friend who owns a truck.
Could be worth it. With today's retail (sucker) rates of trades services, if you buy the TV, you won't ever have to paint the wall!
Nothing that is broadly popular, requires "justification" or any other form of defense. The need for justification rests with the rare and unpopular choices.
One example is manual transmissions. If you drive a manual, prepare to be taken to task, for being a troglodyte and refusing to accede to the times, or being a "boy racer" who's insufficiently mature to relegate the shifting-duties to a computer.
Another example is sports cars. Anything that's RWD, lacks a back seat, and especially if it's a manual transmission... is going to be panned as an older-man's effete toy (or a younger man's silly dream), a crime against the environment, or some silly joke. It's going to be the target of crude sexual insults.
Yet another example is classics. Drive anything older than about 30, and you'll receive all sorts of scorn, for being a pretender-mechanic and some dweeb who doesn't understand the benefits of fuel injection or antilock brakes.
It's the niche vehicles that attract the hate... because, strength in numbers.
I’m a little dismissive of trucks...mostly because most of the owners, at least around here, don’t do nearly anything that would justify actually owning a pickup. It’s very much just cool to own a truck here. If I did truck things, then yeah, I’d get a truck though.
SUVs are another matter. To me they have always been a pretty sub-optimal body style for family duty. Vans and wagons are both superior picks for that. And now that the majority are tall cars, lacking any real off-road abilities, there isn’t even that excuse anymore. I actually wouldn’t mind a good off-roader, although sadly we do t have any good trails here that I know of. Off reading is something I’ve always kinda wanted to get into.
I don't think I've ever owned a car because it's cool. But I do own pickup trucks that's pretty much all I've ever owned. I don't need to justify owning it just like I don't need to justify owning an electric kettle or a set of pots and pans that I want.
I want that I can afford that therefore I own it.
If you want to go off-roading you're better off with a pick up truck, or almost exactly the same thing as a pickup truck with a different body shape on it.
Personally, I don't care if someone has a problem with me owning a truck and I if they asked me to justify, I will be most happy to use the two word reply and we all know what that will be.
But during the spring-thru-fall months, I do use it to pull a trailer. Do that in a Prius...
And during the winter, I use it to drive through the snow.
So, I can justify it, but if asked on the street, I will give my standard two-word reply.
However, where I live, damn near everyone has a truck or an SUV based on a truck frame like a Suburban, Tahoe, etc. And those that don't MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS!
Yeah I don't feel I need to justify it I have a truck because I want one. If someone has a problem with that they can write a letter to their congressman.
Nothing against trucks or their owners, but no one is immune to the consequences of irresponsibility, no matter how cool your vehicle.
LED light bars are loaded with open-faced, direct-firing bulbs without a reflector or projector housing to provide direction and cutoff. Unsurprisingly, the usable light doesn't actually travel that far. It just blinds people traveling in the opposite direction.
Truck owners towing or hauling... anything... would do well to receive CDL training because what doesn't apply directly, translates in a very useful way.
Why would you get CDL training? If you're not doing it commercially then you shouldn't.
I did not see it that way. I used to drive to CA from the East Coast in trucks governed so the could only do 62 mph. I had many motorist pass me and tell me I was number 1 in their book!
