I dislike from park in the bmw x5(don’t know if it’s in other models) to go into reverse you have to push the shifter forward and to go into park you have to push a button.

That's what I described in my first post. My Bolt is the same way and it makes a lot of sense. Forward is to pull back on the shifter, and reverse is push forward. You never overshoot into park while driving, and it sets the park setting when you either push the button, or turn the car off, or open the door. It's safe and easier to use than the old way, which allowed cars to roll away if you made a mistake (and that happened a lot) or roll over you if you get out with it in gear or in neutral (which killed that kid from the Star Trek movies).

It would make more sense to push forward to go forward and the pull back to go back if you were going to change from the original structure

I hate that manually shifting my car's automatic transmission is back to upshift and forward to downshift. It is so counter-intuitive. I desperately want to push for upshift and pull for downshift. After 8 years of occassional use, I still can't program my brain to pull for upshift and push for downshift.
The paddles on the wheel are even worse because they turn with the wheel. They should be mounted on the steeing column so I always know where the paddle is. Everytime I make a 90 degree turn, my hands are out of place for using a paddle, so I either have to rev the snot out of the engine, slow down and wait until the paddle comes back to hand, or reach down for the shifter.

It is idiotic.
Dont worry, years from now, like many on here are harping about. Most if not all vehicles will be EV's.
You’ll get nowhere here using logic, reason, and what to me is undeniable truth.
You’ll get no argument from someone who drove a Renault 4 years ago, with the gearshift sticking out of the dashboard, ugly animal, but reliable, just put gas in it and check the oil, and it would take you anywhere.
Can I just set the record straight?
Years ago I drove a Renault 4, NOT 4 years ago I drove a Renault
Elbow on the window ledge, thumb around the steering wheel, right hand on the floor shifter. How's that for a "rule?"
