Hey guys, just need a quick opinion. I'm looking to get an 04 or 05 Solara or Maxima. Which would you all prefer as it relates to reliability and miles per gallon?

I've owned two Maximas in the last 3 years and had nothing but luck with them. The Maximas have been known for having good build qaulities and resale value. I know the Solaras are pretty nice as well. I'd still go with a Maxima though.

Solara is a two door. The Maxima ia a four door. If your going to haul three or four more individuals on a regular basis, than I would pick the Maxima. If it's just you and probably a passenger, than the Solara.

Here's a reliabilty link. Remember the Solara is under the name Camry Solara. Good Luck!

Ok, Bronze . . . you asked.

Being anti Cookie Cutter Vehicles . . . although the Maxima is probably the better performer and handler, the Solara gets my vote mainly due to its more unique and individual styling / appearance which should help in maintaining value.

Being a dual Maxima owner ('95 and '03) and still driving the '95 with 122k I vote Maxima. Our first was a 1990 Stanza that sold us on the brand. Very reliable, good mileage for the size (about 26 on the highway), quiet (my 95 still doesn't have a single squeak or rattle), and sold as a rock.

I have a 96 Maxima that was obviously neglected by its previous owner. I bought it cheap with the intention of driving it into the ground except for basic routine maintenance like oil changes and replacing a bad muffler and the like. Despite the neglect, it has soldiered on almost flawlessly so far, the one exception being a bad crank sensor. I even hit a bear with it and it's still going strong. I get about 28mpg highway; not bad for a 190HP V6.

I go with the 05 Maxima. Quick for a car of its size and price. We have one and love it. I think it may out run my Charger R/T in a 1 or 2 mile stretch. Only thing I hate about the Maxima is the trans, it has a slow/jerky response to the throttle.
