I'm going to be looking for a decent used car pretty soon. What are some good older (no more than 10 years, or is that too old?), reliable, dependable cars? I've heard Hondas last forever. Is that true? Any others?

Personally, houstoner . . . when it comes to Used Vehicles, I firmly believe The Seller or Previous Owner is more important than the Vehicle Manufacturer.
I bought my '95 Lincoln Town Car for those reasons... reliable, dependable.
But I also wanted a large car with a V-8 engine and a lot of room inside and in the trunk (which eliminates little cars like Hondas, Toyotas, etc).
A bonus is the 18-25 mpg (average: 21 mpg). That is just as good mpg as some smaller cars with a V-6.
I bought my TC from the original owner for $4,000. It now has about 117,000 miles... very little for a Town Car so it has a lot of life left in it.
Our Buick LeSabre gets more than 26 miles to the gallon in town day to day driving. The best we have done on a four lane road trip is 35 mph. Usually we get better than 30 mph on almost any trip that does not involve a lot of stop lights. It also has a lot of leg room and a big trunk. One added bonus is an adjustment in the seat that helps the back.

Good Luck
I agree but Hondas and Toyotas have been the most reliable from the 90's.
