In central Missouri where I was vacationing last week it was down to about $2.70/gal by Sunday. In just the 4 days the wife and I were there, gas prices dropped about 20¢/gal. Still around $3.75 in Chicago, about 25¢/gal less in the suburbs. Just goes to show you how hard we're still getting hosed here in Chitown.

Chalk it up to supply, demand, "boutique" formulation, and taxes. Normally the Upstate/Downstate IL differential is about 20¢/gal (30¢/gal for stations in Chicago Proper), but I guess we're still putting a lot of demand pressure on our supply around here. I drove through downstate IL yesterday on my way back home from vacationing in Missouri, and the upstate/downstate differential is about 20¢/gal higher than it usually is. I guess we just refuse to give up driving here in Chicago, which is ironic since we have one of the most comprehensive mass-transit systems in the country here.
