I miss my 87 Golf. That car could survive anything.

Except the idiot who ran a red light.

The offender was a full-size van, and hit just behind the driver's side door. Every window except the windshield broke, and I had to crawl out the hatch because both passenger doors were jammed shut.

I got out with nothing but a bruised hip -- and shredded pantyhose -- somewhat of a miracle, according to the EMTs who hauled me out of the hatch. The window on the driver's side broke before my head whipped back to the left after the impact, otherwise there could have been some nasty damage to the side of my head.

Luckily it was dark -- I was able to postpone crying over the crumpled state of my car until I saw it in the daylight the next day.

I know. Denial often causes maniacal laughter. I hope you feel better.

'64 Chevy. Built like a tank. Nothing could destroy it. Had to sell due to family matters.
