I was stopped yesterday and got rear ended by an F-150. The woman hit me going about 10-20 mph. No airbags deployed but she hit me hard enough to knock me into the car in front of me.

I got out to assess the damage and her car's front end was really messed up (bumped dragging, grill and radiator pushed in, leaking antifreeze, etc.). The other guy's rear bumper was smashed too.

My truck had a minor dent on the front and the rear bumper was bent down on side about 5 inches. All in all my truck held up amazingly well, or so I thought. I drove it home, contacted insurance, etc.

I got in my truck this morning and pulled out of my parking spot, started to move forward and then it felt like my transmission was in neutral. The engine would rev but wouldn't go into gear. At about 3-4k RPM it would start to move forward again in a short burst, and then fall out of gear again. I was able to do this enough to get back into my parking spot and then hopped in my wife's car who was leaving at the same time and she drove me to work.

Do any of you have any idea what would be causing this....and is it likely the result of the accident? I'm worried that her insurance won't cover it because I was able to drive it home fine. I didn't get a chance to look for leaking fluids or anything.

You have no transmission fluid. Sounds like you most likely cracked your transmission case and all the fluid leaked out.

Take it right to her insurance company adjuster and have them look at it.

Most likely, when the radiator was smashed, it also leaked the tranny fluid out of the tranny cooler that is either IN your radiator or directly in FRONT of it.

Sounds like this is quite possible. I'd say 99% sure it's related to the accident. Rear end impacts have bearing on the transmissions if they're hard enough, especially in rear wheel drive cars/trucks.

I think your linkage is out of adjustment, if the transmision mount or motor mounts tore it likely moved.

From the OP saying that it would move some when they revved it up to 3-4k, that would indicate a trans fluid level problem most likely.

I agree. If his linkage was out of adjustment, he would have noticed that immediately after the accident.

This one sounds the most likely to me.
