I'm looking to buy a crossover and am trying to find the best value for what I can afford. I need to buy something like this for my job and have heard they get good gas mileage and handle most like a regular car. I just graduated from college so I do not have a ton of money and am looking for something between $15k and $25k, although I would like to avoid getting to $25k if possible. I've done a fair amount of research but still haven't really narrowed it down. Any recommendations?
Go to edmonds .com .croossovers and then price range. That will shopw you MSRP without tax.title and license. Then look at the ones your interested in by the new car options and look at average price less the same. Fully loaned crossover are pretty expensive for what they are and don't quite the milage if any size at all compared to cars because they have higher ground clearance mostly like SUVs.Mini SUVs is what they are really.
By crossover I believe you mean a minivan/SUV type of crossover.
I have a GMC Acadia and I love it. Gas milage is about 15mpg around town and 22mpg on the highway. Not the best, but it is a crossover and has AWD. It handles awesome in the snow, rain, ice, ect., seats 7 comfortably. I love it. Not sure on the $price$ on them now. I'm sure there are a lot of rebates. Mine is fully loaded and over your 25K. I'm not sure how much one with less options would cost.
Get a Certified Pre-Owned Lexus RX. They invented the crossover segment and still make one of the best. You can pick up a low mileage 2006 or 2007 RX with a Lexus-backed 100K mile, extremely comprehensive warranty and new car finance terms.
That would be the upper end of your price point, though.
To stay a little cheaper, a Nissan Murano is a great crossover, as is a lightly used Acura MDX. Also, check out a Hyundai Santa Fe.
One of my friends also has a Nissan Rogue and loves it. Plus, they are very affordable brand-new.
I have a Ford Freestyle (Taurus X now) and love it. AWD and I still get 22 -24 MPG on the freeway and about 20 MPG in town. It handles like a little dream and is simply the best thing I have ever driven in snow and ice (as much as I hate to admit it, it handles ice better than my 4 X 4 trucks.) The major factor I have found with it though is keeping good quality tires on it. Go cheap and it rides worse than my old work truck and handles like a water buffalo on roller skates; put on a decent set of rubber and it is a whole different vehicle in ride and handling (mainly in snow, dry roads it is mainly the ride that suffers). I don't know what they run new, but you can find a real decent, low mileage used one in the $12,000 - $18,000 price range.
Get a used Lexus RX. 2000-2004 should fit in within your budget.
