Do they really change your oil and filter?

I recently changed my oil & filter but it was a *****. The oil was 10.50 for 5 qts & 1.50 for the filter. Total incl tax was around 13.00 but it was a messy job. I have been changing my own oil for many yrs. I do though need to grease the fittings.

I figure the oil and filter cost around $15. That only leaves $5 for the shop, not a lot of money. I wonder if they just charge you the money and do nothing. How many of you actually check to see if the work is done? I mean like asking to see the old oil filter and things like that.

After so many negative experiences with repair shops and mechanics, I have little trust in them.

That is what you pay retial ;not their cost for bulk oil and filters by the case at wholesale prices.
