Similar question to Megan. I am considering buying E-350 2-WD Super Duty Van for towing 8,000pounds of horses and horse trailor. We will be commonly towning through the Idaho mountains fro horse camping. How will this Van do with this load UP the hills. We'll have trailor brakes as well. Thanks

Do you know the engine size, transmission option and rear axle ratio?
ho yeah, 5.4L trans ? auto with overdrive, rearend - no idea whatever was standard I suppose. thanks
I think you will be disappointed... most are running diesels or v10's towing 8000 lbs in the mountains...
Not saying you can't do it... just don't be in a hurry and take your time going up and down the grades... the diesels provide excellent motor braking and I find going down the grade safely more important than going up quickly
For an 8000# trailer (4 horse, 6 horse?) around here anyway I see mostly HD pickups with a 5th wheel setup, you could do it with the van you are looking at but I don't think it's really the tool for the job. If you already owned the van it might make sense to go ahead and use it, but I wouldn't go out and buy it for this. If you got it cheap enough, you could give it a try...Really seems to me a Diesel 4WD pickup would be better. Even a dually 1-ton. I just don't like to run around with my equipment maxed out regarding power or load carrying capability.
Hey, just as an update, thanks for all the posts about the F-250. We just made it to Minneapolis through Canada from Alaska. Engine Brake controller quit working about four days ago- couldn't find anyone to fix it or who knew what was wrong. But we made it, with about 12 miles to the gallon, and yes, about 30 to 40 up some crazy hills, but we made it, and that is all we were asking for out of our little rig!
