If you have a heavy foot and may travel a bit over the speed limit, you might want to keep an eye out for these popular police car models.

The Ford Crown Victoria is the most popular police car currently in production. Renowned for its durability, many speeders have seen this unfortunate sight in their rear view mirror. But there are other patrol vehicles that road warriors should recognize, and many of them are faster than the popular Crown Vicky.

Around here the most common new cop car is the Charger. ISP uses them as do several of the local sherrifs.

Contours and Taurus (how do you pluralize that, anyway?)? huh.

around here we have: Crown Vics, Chargers, Tahoes (current and last-generation), Impalas (current and last-generation), and even Jeep Cherokees.

i don't know how other states' Tahoes are, but the ones here don't have luggage racks. that's always the easy way to spot them IMO.

Here in south Texas, between San Antonio and the Valley, everybody drives a truck except the police. If its a sedan, its the traffic cops.

quite a few people and cab companies buy used police vehicles (crown vics) at auction. what the police drive depends on the city/town. One town is all crown vics, another is Impala, while another is moving towards the charger. Those Ford Contour cars may not be fast in 0-60 but they'll make up for it in handling.

I can spot a cop car from almost a mile away, especially at night. The distinct frontal illumination is an easy give away.... for Crown Vics anyway.
