I know for sure I want a wagon (or at least wagonish) vechicle. I have test driven and narrowed it down to the following 3

Wondering if any of you have experience, opinions or information concerning my top picks that might help me decide.

My picks are the Volvo wagon (used), Jetta Sportwagon (new), or Subaru Forester. (no, for some reason I don't like the Outback-although it is a TRUE wagon).

Volvo- more expensive so I would have to get one a couple of years old. ALthough the one we drove was BEAUTIFUL- but I will admit the back seat seemed cramped with only 2 children in it.

Jetta Wagon- I hear mixed reviews about the reliability VW cars, but did like the way it drives and they have some great rebate deals going on.

Forester- more of a small SUV than a real wagon. but I liked the ride, 4 wheel drive, space & the storage area. I will admit it does look less refined next to the Volvo- but the Forester has far more usable space.

Thanks in advance!

Wagons are all about utility more than anything else so make your pick based on which vehicle gives you the most utility before looks or anything else.

If you follow this criteria you will not have buyers remorse when the payments stop.

Just be careful to check on the turning radius on the internet, whatever you see there must be true.

I see that you're considering the Jetta Wagon. Have you looked at the Passat wagon as well?
Volkswagen Passat Wagon Home (http://www.vw.com/passatwagon/en/us/ - broken link)

A friend of mine has a Passat and I quite liked the way it drove. It'll offer many of the creature comforts the Volvo has, but with a lower price. Used ones can be found easily to.

I'd steer clear of VW. I hear a few good experiences...and twice as many bad ones. This is in regards to newer VW, the old bugs and vans go forever

Check out Subaru if you want a wagon, or even Volvo. Good luck wagon shopping!

I always enjoyed the Volvo, I had several 122 wagons and a few 240 wagons. I used them like trucks and they did well. Volvo's do have a third seat available for the wagons.

My wife loves her new Ford Escape, small but wagon enough to carry her drum kit to gigs.

I love wagons, always have, and that is weird when you consider that I always have had and loved small and nimble cars.

Two VWs '78 Rabbit and '89 GTI, hatches not wagons, but as close as I could get for the circumstances. Still driving the GTI with over 200K and between my buddy and I we put 260K on the Rabbit. My two favorite cars in my ownership career - 35 yrs.

So, the point is, if I could afford a Jetta SportWagon TDI at the moment I would do it in a heartbeat.

I also drooled over the pic of the '57 Nomad!

Had two Subaru Wagons and loved them, but had head gasket issues with both. Worth it in snowy/mountain conditions.

As a kid my favorite was my uncles huge Chrysler with the rear facing seats. (May be why I have been afflicted ever since.)

Would love to find a clean Falcon wagon with the 170 six and a manual trans. Good mileage, simple to work on and very utilitarian.

Oh yeah, I like my girlfriend's Escape too. 135K and almost like new, decent room (sorta wagonlike) and a capable mountain runabout.

Which Volvo wagon? What year? Those V70R's are sweet. If I were getting another Volvo I'd get either a silver or blue one.

An old friend once built a pretty hot 122 wagon. I loved that car. Header, ported, etc. I got decent mileage, was fun, and likely was a pretty safe for his wife and kids... not quite as much when he and I bombed around in it.
