Was watching the news today.....a local dealer has been moving cars big time since CFC came out. Before then he had a whole lot of cars that were not selling, now he's down to 65.
It has incentivized a certain group of drivers - ones with qualifying "clunkers" that they thought were worth less than $3500 or $4500 to get "off the fence" and go ahead and buy, now.
The flip side is that I seriously doubt the dealers will be seeing these same smiling faces for a *long* time in terms of buying new again.
Sort of like shaking a fruit tree - you get more fruit NOW, but in the long term, you don't get any more fruit than was there to begin with.
They say this is not only supposed to get fuel consumers off the road but also boost new car sales. The only thing I'm wondering is if we're going to be back to square 1 in a few years?
I mean we are in a recession, new car sales were slow....until now...and I can only hope that all these people who were driving clunkers for a reason, can afford these new car payments...otherwise we'll be seeing these cars they just traded their so-called clunkers in for, back on the lot again shortly....
At best with this program I see fewer gas guzzlers on the road.....
Silly man. Don't you all know this is failed program by a corrupt Chicago politician that benefits no one and will help bring about the total collapse of the American economy?

I would agree that the plan has been POPULAR, but this doesn't mean that it has been a SUCCESS. Give just about anything away to the American public and they will line up for it in droves.
Pull tax money out of everyone's pockets and use it to subsidize something that only benefits a select group? Great plan!
Save fossil fuel? Please - what is the actual percentage of cars on the road that we are talking about here? How many more miles (and gallons of fuel burned) will all of those people drive now that they have a new car? How much energy does it take to dispose of all those "clunkers" that still have value?
The environment sees no benefits, the auto industry sees a minor blip on thier sales charts, and the American taxpayers foot yet another bill for a bailout. AWESOME SUCCESS! No conspiracy here - just flawed econonmic and environmental thinking.

I know you are trying to be cute, but you are absolutely correct. It is a failed program by a socialist Chicago thug....

I think the fact that you agree with such an extreme statement is the most telling thing of all.
