WASHINGTON (CNN) -- As car dealers start to turn away new Cash for Clunkers customers, a key industry group is urging the government to give them another week to get their paperwork in.

The National Automobile Dealers Association released a statement late Friday insisting problems with the government's computer application system could mean legitimate "clunker" deals can't be submitted on time.

The government has tripled the work force to handle this mess, more bureaucrats; plus I see too many documents being sent back to the dealers because they were filled out wrong. Something like trying to get your towed car back in New York City.

Another thought, is there going to be an income tax to pay by the dealer or customer on the $4,500?

I have read that it will not be considered income as many wandered.Dealers; of course will pay the usual amount on profits as normal ;no matter where the money comes from.Otherwise states are handling it like any trade in with no sales tax on that amount;at least here in texas.
