I see no reason why a 4-cylinder mid-size car like the Fusion wouldn't work (New York City uses them.) The Ford Taurus seems like another good candidate if they insist on full sized cars. Still, the new Caprice is better than the 5000lb.+ Tahoe's you see some police departments using. When you're spending tax payer's money I guess fuel efficiency takes a back seat.

In an urban enviroment a Fusion is fine. On the highway law enforcement wants plenty of giddyup and haul ass.

Very cool! Is this a Chevy version of the Pontiac G8? I really liked the G8 and wished it sold better. Hopefully this will catch on.

True, I can just see a cop in a four banger Fusion trying to chase down a speeding Z28. LOL

I don't think this car will be offered to the public though, not with the governments new MPG requirements. If it is, it'll probably have some turbo 4cyl or something.

The 4-cylinder Fusion accelerates as quickly as the Crown Victoria and Chevy Impala. Ford also offers two V6 options on the Fusion which make it quicker than those two cars.

For me it wouldn't just be about the gas mileage. I would want the biggest thing I can drive if I were a cop. Part of the job is about protection for the officer. You also want speed. I would take a Tahoe anyday as a cop car. It would be able to protect the driver, get up and go, and if needed get off road. That is just me and the kind of place I live. We have city, sand, and ag land here. In other parts of the county their is hilly terrain. If they are going to produce a car made for the Police then have them build a big one like the old Caprice or Crown Vic. For me I would choose the Tahoe if I could, and around here that is the case.

The Statesman is 266mm(10.47") longer than the Commodore with 94mm(3.7") being between the axles. So it is a few inches regarding seating but overall nearly a foot.

Yes, the G8 and Caprice PPV are related on the same platform. The G8 was based off of the Holden Commodore. The Caprice PPV is based off of the larger Holden Statesman. Both cars use the Zeta platform with main differences being in overall size. The Statesman/Caprice is larger than the Commodore/G8, with about an extra 4" in wheelbase and 7" in length. It's a really large sedan by todays standards; for comparison a new 300 has a slightly longer wheelbase, but is about 5" shorter overall.
