Altima would be my first choice, Accord a close second, although what someone said about the brakes raises my eyebrows. Sonata would be my last pick, although I subscribe to Consumer Reports, and Hyundai has been getting great reviews. I have a 08 Camry which is in the same class, and I love it. I think this is one of the best classes there is, even the Malibu is one of Chevy's good cars.
I'd choose a Nissan over a Honda, are you not considering a Maxima? I feel like Altimas are more on par with Civics rather than Accords . . . when it comes to extras and performance.
Hyundais are ok if you plan on leasing and trading up every year - no perseverance there (from my experiences).

The Maxima is not in the same class the OP is asking about. It is priced quite a bit above the Altima, Accord and Sonata.
How is the Altima on par with a Civic? They are two completely different classes (sizes). The Sentra competes head on with the Civic.
I would buy a Camry or Avalon over any of those, but the order in which I would buy one of these is:
Altima
Sonata
Accord
Hondas are great cars that are extremely reliable, but when the do need service, the parts are pricey.
