Those 1960s vehicles were death traps. Bodies would collapse, no seat belts, no head rests, seat backs would break, non collapsing steering wheel of hard Bakelite, steel dash boards.

no but you got ejected from the car so if the gas tank went up you were safe

The ejection wouldn't hurt you that's true. But that landing could be a death sentence!

Maybe I am missing something but being thrown through a glass windshield isn't the stuff of good healthy living. It really does hurt, a lot.
