...he gets his engine detailed!

That's right, this is a rite of passage for any red blooded American male, and I want to do it right, on my own. With a little bit (or a lot of your help). Hype aside...

I used to get my engine detailed all the time. But I'd go to the wash, and on the few occasions I paid attention, they'd simply pour some green or blue liquid all over the engine, then flush with water.

A friend later told me this was not good for the engine at all, and so now I am looking for info on how to detail properly.

My understanding is that the procedure is as follows:

1. use engine degreaser

2. apply CD2

That's it.

Now, my question is, do you have to cover the electrical parts: battery, spark plug wires, alternator, distributor? Or, is this optional?

Also, I'm concerned about the grease and auto fluids draining off into a storm drain, as I hear this is not good for the environment.

I'd like to detail my engine, but I'm just too paranoid about damaging something with the water/chemicals.

I agree, John . . . unless the engine is cruddy, just not worth the risk.

The American man isn't what he used to be it seems. Real men used to pull their engines take them apart and put them back together. Now all you have to do is wash a little grease off them. LOL

"Todays" man is a pimp I guess, decorate your Impala with 22" wheels, lots of chrome and pimp that motor.

I would rather rebuild a motor, paint the Jeep. Go out and forage in the woods for a few weeks.

he he, I share some of your concerns about engine issues. But, man, there's a LOT of build up.

Well crap, I thought being a man had something to do with working hard, being a positive and responsible citizen, and providing for your family.

I generally spray down the engine with simple green every time I change oil.

Keeps things from building up.
