How so? They are innovating, beginning to lead in fuel economy, and producing reliable vehicles. They are paying off significant chunks of debt, have returned to profitability, and their stock has been rocketing up since early 2009. It sounds to me like you haven't been paying too much attention.

DMC Houston has hit the news, and the DMC Newslist, with reports that they are producing "new" DeLoreans. The news report (AP) that I read said that they would use a new stainless frame, lighter fiberglass, and the Stage 2 (or 3!) engine and the warehouse of NOS parts to produce a "new" DeLorean. The $57,500 base price tag is a bit more than their old base price ($42,500) for a "restored" DeLorean. Some of that difference is the stainless frame. Place your order now, wait time is a year or more! DMCH "restored" DeLoreans do not appear to be available anymore
I'm a big fan of the DeLorean and have been for about ten years now. I'm on a DeLorean forum and can say without a doubt that what DMC Texas claims they are doing is very misleading. They are not building new cars from the old stock parts but rather are improving the vehicle on existing VINs using a combination of reproduction and NOS (new old stock) parts.

They find and buy a beat-up DMC and strip it apart to its key components. It gets a new SS frame, the fiberglass pontoon gets fixed if need be, all the wiring and engine are gone through, it gets a new gauge binnacle, seat covers, dash covering, some fancy modern stereo equipment and what have you. Call it what you want...it is not a new car.

If they were selling these as new cars, it would have to have airbags, meet crash regulations, and so on and so forth. An almost 30 year old car is not capable of meeting these very stringent modern crash standards. And while the DeLo has a very specific fan base, it is certainly not enough of a following to merit that kind of investment.

Know why NONE of the import car companies want to see GM or Chrysler fail? They'd be exposed for the copy cats they (import companies) are and how they have yet to develope or invent anything of real impact.

Ummm.........what? Just because somebody other than America built a car that makes them copycats? By that logic the Americans copied Karl Benz.

Not that this has anything to do with the topic at hand....
