Flowmaster American Thunder exhaust kit is what I was talking about!LOL........ But the manual choke kits for carbs are available though. Try Jegs or Summit!

Ooops. Sorry. I'm obviously learning about the car. When you said "to answer your question OP", I didn't know what question you were answering.

I don't need a manual choke. First things first...get this running reliably. I'm fine with the electric.

The key word is electric not vacuum!!!! The vacuum ones are very temperamental if not the NOS carb. If you get one little piece of crap in that line (were talking a very small) piece of rust or shaving it will lock it up and it will not work. If you are gonna use something other than Autolite use an electric choke or manual choke!

let me correct you here, the C code 289's came with a 350cfm 2bbl carb, the A code 289's came with the 480cfm 4bbl carb.

You didn't mention more about the car....how many rpms does this thing typically see?

To determine what carb you need, IIRC it's the cubic inches X engine rpm divided by 3456. A 289 spinning no more than 4400 rpm only needs a 368 cfm carb to work right.

If your Mustang is a typical cruising street car, it probably doesn't ever really see 4400 rpms unless your foot is planted in the pedal taking off from a stop light or if it's a manual and you're shifting it past 4400.

The two biggest hot rodder mistakes: over camming and over carbing.

Who leaves on the two barrel? I haven't seen one yet that still was!LOL.......

That was usually one of the first things to go within the first year, unless a secretary owned it and since then have long been junked. I still have one that came in a box of parts. It makes a hell of a paperweight!LMAO....... The intake manifold was changed at the time of the carb swap. I have one of those too that came with a spare 4 speed Top Loader. It also makes a hell of a paperweight!LMAO....... I tried to sell them before and a guy wanted to give me $10 for the pair!LMAO......... I'll keep them for that because someday people may want to put them back. Other quick mods include American Racing Torque Thrust D wheels, Cobra valve covers, Styled steel wheels, rally packs etc.... etc.... Back when they came out you took what you could get. It started taking on its own personality almost immediately and mods were in order. Many of the Shelby GT-350 parts were purchased at the dealer parts counter and installed. There is nothing wrong with modding and even better (best) if it is vintage or period correct speed parts! Do you guys know what the carb and intake manifold did to the car? Switching from a 2V to a 4V shaves at least 2 seconds off your ET in the 1/4! No other mods required to do this except that swap! Pretty cool and wise investment/swap isn't it?

A magnaflow muffler will make more power everyday of the week. And unlike the flowmaster, a magnaflow will be a nice inside the car able to talk over it solid rumble whisper as compared to the power robbing flowmasters annoying back drone. After all the dyno testing of mufflers on the market, I was actuly disappointed the flowmasters did not perform better as up until the most of the week long exercise in testing I always used flowmasters.
