Finally the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is ready for delivery and has entered commercial service; it's the world's first major airliner to use composite materials for a majority of it's construction.
The plane is 80% composite materials by volume without the approximately 50,000 fasteners required in a conventional aircraft design.
By weight it entails: 50% Composites; 20% Aluminum; 15% Titanium; 10% Steel and 5% Other.
The design boasts fuel efficient engines, quieter engines and overall operation and improved aerodynamics, as well as more reliable subsystems.
Seating capacity ranges from 200 to 300 depending on the design variant and configuration.
