Doesn't really have to be a autogyro just under $10k used.

Autogryo? You could 'escape' a Hawaiian eruption on a skateboard.

PS - When shopping for aircraft, the whole idea of 'under $10k' really isn't wise.

Popular Rotorcraft Association :: Gyroplane FAQs
How much does a gyroplane cost?
Gyroplanes can be built from plans, built from kits, or purchased used. It is possible to build a gyroplane from plans for under $10,000 US. Single-place gyroplane kits cost about twice as much. Used gyroplanes range from about $5,000 and up, usually with several thousand dollars more needed to get a cheap gyroplane into safe flying condition. Two-place gyroplanes may cost much more – similar to comparable airplanes. To all these prices, add $3,000 or more for gyroplane flight training.

I am not sure where would be the easiest place to evacuate. The Maui Channel is about 30 miles, but these other interairport distances give you a better idea. If you can make it to Kauai you might be better off.

You can escape the next Kilauea eruption by taking Highway 11 up to Hilo and then crossing the bridge over the Wailuku River on Highway 19. No aircraft required. The only way you'll get trapped by a lava flow is if you don't heed the warnings to evacuate when an eruption starts and before Highway 137 gets paved over with lava. If that happens, then yes, an aircraft that can take off straight up would be helpful. I'd recommend a helicopter, myself.

Cool suggestion.

I looked into a timed out Cessna 150 and that seems doable.
Its only got to fly once so as long as it gets me out to sea, im good.

I do like those gyrocopters just because they are so James Bondy!

Planes that sit for long periods of time tend not to work when we need them. Better to buy a boat that you will actually use, and then can rely on in a bugout situation.

Good advice.

I was just looking for a few more back ups.
Living in this isolation it pays to have a few extra ways off the island.

I imagine when the big one hits, tsunamis (more than any other place on the planet), earthquakes (60,000 earthquakes in just over 2 months), Volcanos (the glow from fissure 8 lit up my livingroom), landslides (East rift zone, West rift zone, etc.), incoming Mis-sle warnings (that whole thing) the boat launch might get a little crowded.

I like the idea of flying to a neighboring island but floating there on my kayak is just as good.
