Emsgoof -- Are you Bmorelater? Anyway, you are talking about JHH and Bmorelater was talking about Mercy. One of you is terribly wrong.
At Mercy, a row of historical rowhouses along St. Paul was demolished. A new surgical tower will be built there.
I have no idea as to what may or may not have happened at JHH because I did not deal with that question.End of confusion.

No, I'm not.
Sorry, I was thinking about the old Church Home hospital, which was torn down so some section 8 housing could be put up. (I blame senility... I will officially be turning "old" this weekend)
It is sad that some historical houses were torn down to add on to Mercy. That hospital has plenty of under-utilized space inside that they could have done the same thing with. As much as I dislike what Baltimore has become, it does have some nice architecture, and I hate seeing older houses torn down for the "latest and greatest thing that we didn't really need".

Default No prob. bro

Emsgoof -- How old do you have to be old? I'm 64. Do I qualify?
If you are anything like me, you'll wonder how all of your friends look so old when you yourself don't feel any difference.

Just under half that (30). I don't feel old, but my friends all say I'm going to be old (except the ones that are already over 30!)

I didn't realize they tore down row homes for that Mercy addition. I thought they just demolished that huge parking garage??

As to the rest of the post, it's mostly ill-informed bull. For example, no Section 8 rentals are going to go to the Mercy Hospital expansion site. Instead, a huge hospital highrise is going there.
'nuff said.
Ok you got me. In my seething anger I typed the wrong location. I meant Church Home hospital. Doesn't matter, it's still my money paying their rent.

'nuff said. Enjoy your new taxes next year =) Be sure to re-elect O'Malley so he can screw everyone some more.

Bmorelater-
Just to clarify my earlier post. I have nothing against Scottsdale or the Phoenix metro area. I've heard it's a wonderful place to live and from what I've seen in pictures, it's a gorgeous part of the country. I'm sure there's plenty of nice, regular people living there. I was just trying to make a point to Terrapin that snobby rich people exist everywhere and not just in the Northeastern corridor.

Man...I have held off reading this thread because I was afraid to read some of the responses from those that long for the good life in the suburbs of Phoenix. Sure enough, there plenty of those in this thread. Me thinks these colorful, charismatic, and overall wonderful people voted for GW Bush. twice But thats for another story.

I moved to Baltimore a couple of years ago because of its rich history. Well that, and I was a huge fan of the WIRE and figured this would be a great place to teach! I soon realized that I had no idea just how much history was here. Each neighborhood...each rowhome has a story to tell. I hear the talk of the doom and gloom of they "grey and brown" homes......and its like wow..these people really don't get it. Some of these homes are over 100..150..200 years old. I was never much for architecture until I moved here....and now I am slightly obsessed with it.

Teaching here in the city has become a dream come true, as well. The amount of activities one can do with the students here in the city is unfathomable for somebody that spent his first 8 years teaching in Omaha. It was like I was a kid again....and all those things I read about growing up..I was now experiencing with my students. Its too bad more teachers in the city don't take advantage of all there is to offer. ( and no that doesn't mean a trip to the Aquarium where each kid has been 87 times)

But what do many people do? Just complain. Not pitch in a hand and help...just mope around feeling bad for themselves and praying for that day where they can lay out on the back patio of a Phoenix duplex.....sprinkling their lawn with the last remnants of the Colorado River.

Honestly...I couldn't imagine living anywhere else.
