I am a student residing in Essex, and will have a training in Windsor Mill. The spot is right on the other end of US 40. I know morning rush hour traffic flows get horrible toward downtown. Has anyone have any idea as to the traffic condition once driving past downtown? How about hidden traffic cameras--they are also troublesome.

I can also choose to drive through I-95 but the toll will kill me as a poor student! and I have to drive a lot more miles and would not save much time either.

Has anyone can help me with the dilemma?

The last time I drove across town on 40 it was a rough ride. There are liable to be delays around Johns Hopkins Hospital; there is always construction somewhere. I95 would be a last resort for me.

How long would you need to do this?
Once and done? Once a week for a couple of month? Every day for two years?

If you want to stick to highways and avoid tolls, you could take 695 North around, but depending on how close to 40 you're going (I thought Windsor Mill was north of 40 anyway?) it will be longer and if during rush hour there will still be traffic.

In the morning going west on 40 Will not be that bad in the am. It's worst going east in the afternoon.

You can also get a commuter discount ez pass for the tunnel. Google that.

I live in NE Baltimore City and for a time worked at Turf Valley Resort outside of Ellicott City. It was a hell of a commute. I tried taking Rte. 40 all the way through town...twice. That was enough to convince me it wasn't worth the time and effort. I think your best bet is taking 695 North around to the Windsor Mill exit. Even with the traffic the distances are similar, and you avoid tolls.

Last I checked there was no Windsor Mill exit. Liberty Road, perhaps.

Thank you guys!
I will need travel 5 days a week for 3 months. I think the best choice is to take 95 South through the tunnel. It will cost me $25 a month but it will save me time and I won't worry about hidden cameras (will cost ALOT for a ticket). Driving 695 North is way much longer and won't save me time and gas

Yeah, 95 south is by far the best route.
