I want to check out the Charles theater this week. I'm looking at taking the light rail to the Mt. Royal stop (coming in from the North side). It looks like about a half mile walk, going under 83 to get there.

I'm assuming this is a safe enough walk, even after the movie is over ~ 9 PM. Yes?

But in general, how do you know what areas are safe? Should I just drive/cab it until I know? The patchwork makeup of Baltimore neighborhoods makes it a bit tricky.

Walk up Mt. Royal to Charles. Make a left and walk up Charles to the theater. That walk in the early evening should be fine. You will see many others coming and going.

Yep; jonjj is right. Take the light rail to "cultural center", then walk Mt. Royal to Charles Street, then north on Charles. Getting off at North Avenue and coming across the bridge to Charles "from the north" might be a bit scary.

Its not too bad.. it has become more populated since MICA opened their new dorm at North and Mt. Royal.. There is enough decent foot traffic to keep most people safe.....as people trek over to Joe Squared and Wind Up Space...I was walking around in that area around 10ish and noticed all the UB and MICA students wandering around.. They were in groups of no less than 6.. so someone must of schooled them in "city life" and walking around at night. I guess a mugger can control a group of up to 3 or 4 but once you get beyond that the "jumped from behind" index for them to get disarmed increases....unless they grab one person and hold a gun their head and force the other five to put their wallets on the ground and back away or work in pairs but havent heard of that happening....

generally it's not that bad as a lot people make it out to be. A lot people that get mugged or jumped because they are not paying attention to their surrounding environment, always in the lookout, but they their eyes glue on their SMARTphone. Opportunistic!

And what does that have to do with this post? Plus I would pick a different pitch if you're trying to rent out your properties.
