I have gone to Tenpachi several times for a hair cut and then my friend gave me a trim, but I'm now in need of a new cut. I don't want to go back to Tenpachi, because I LOVE getting my hair cut, it's one thing I do for myself, and I feel like it's too rushed there. It's a great place, I just want to go somewhere where someone will take their time on me. I don't want to pay more than 45 for a hair cut...but I want someone who can look at my hair texture, shape of my face, and knows the latest trends, to tell me what they think will look good. So where do people go?

You want someone to spend time on you, and you want to pay less than $45? I think these are mutually exclusive desires.

Go to balance salon in roland park if you don't mind paying for it.

I guess I should clarify. I'd like someone to spend more time on me than the 15 minutes that you sit in the chair at Tenpachi. I just feel like those haircuts are a bit rushed because they're on a 15 minute schedule. There is nothing wrong with Tenpachi, I've gotten fine haircuts in the past, I just want to change my style up a bit. I have been looking at some places and know that I may be spending more than I'd like...but thought I'd ask around to see if there is a hidden gem that someone goes to.

And I like to give a decent tip, so finding a place that doesn't have 80 dollar hair cuts means I can give the stylist a better tip.

MaineGirl, you might want to give Clip Art a try. It's on Fort Ave in South Baltimore. Their prices aren't outrageous and they're super friendly. They'll even offer you a drink while you're being waited on.

I go to Fabulous Salon & Spa on Washington Boulevard, two doors down from my cafe. Fabiola, the owner, does my cut and color, and she does a fantastic job.

I go to Burtonsville, about half an hour south of Baltimore on 29. $25 and she spends about half an hour. I have a classic style and don't need a blow-dry. You can PM me if you want more info. I got tired of paying $65 and up (you are lucky if you can find it at $45 and it's not Hair Cuttery). To be honest, I've even had expensive cutters make a mess of my hair, usually it is all about THEM or the latest trend (I shudder thinking what a flat iron and razor job did to my hair last year).

Thanks for the input everyone! I actually decided to go to Sprout in Hampden. It's an organic hair salon that for long hair cuts ranged from 50-80 bucks depending on the stylists experience. I went for the 50 dollars and had a GREAT experience. They give you a scalp massage with natural oils and massage your head while shampooing. I love the cut, so I will definitely be going there again!
