No, really, it's quite all right if that's the way you are wired, as seems to be the case.

There were actually a substantial number of protesters at the Monument lighting ceremony in Mount Vernon tonight.

I agree it's a huge problem. But, race is irrelevant in the cases you're presenting. I repeat: it's not black-on-black crime. It's poor-on-poor crime. It's not the color of one's skin that predisposes violence, it's poverty. Poverty is the problem, not race.

Ageism is about as becoming as racism.

This is exactly the part that you don't understand yet, evidently having lived in a bubble for the entirety of your young life. It's neither race nor poverty -- it's culture. Much of it is the result of "papa was a rolling stone; wherever he laid his hat was his home," or, put more crudely, "twenty children has he had, but not a one will call him 'dad'."

What you're harping about this time would be called "reverse ageism." But surely something so serious should have it's own name, given the dire consequences. So there we go, yet another "ism." And anyone who transgresses is, of course, a bigot.

I'm sure that the police are already guilty of something along these lines. I hope there is no looting when the righteous protest.

At some point, when the grievance industry needs a new cause, it may become politically incorrect to be an isimist or to display ismism . . .

Yes, I've heard! This is very surprising considering Baltimore's historical complacency when it comes to activism. All my NY friends are surprised by Baltimore's turnout.

And here's the part that you don't understand yet: how do you expect someone to respect you or take your viewpoint seriously when you are constantly talking down to them in such a condescending manner? You have no idea what my "young life" has been like at all. You know what they say about assuming...

When your only point is "you're young and you can't possibly understand," I think it's time to get a new argument. You seem to be the only poster on this forum who brings up my age as a factor when discussing issues. It's seriously a weak leg (if a leg at all) to stand on. Every single time you attempt to discuss anything with me, it seems to regress to this (probably when you run out of arguments on the substance of what I am actually saying). It's getting rather predictable and boring.

I think it's rather ironic that we're having a discussion about race and you put me down for not knowing anything about it because I'm young and yet children are the least racist of us all. I think we should take a lesson from them.

How Many Of Those Ferguson Protestors WANT Jobs?

Seem to recall a survey a week or two ago reflecting that many unemployed are content.

Ms. DG -- I am not seeking any specific person's approval. Remember that this is a public forum with an archive. Most people who post here parrot the left-wing, anti-establishment, White-bashing nonsense about the misbehavior and "privilege" of White Americans and their supposedly evil culture, completely oblivious to the fact that today's Americans of all races have it better than just about anyone, anywhere, at any time in history, thanks in large to the efforts of these despised Whites.

Moreover, I am not assuming anything that you have not made a point of elaborating here. As I recall, you have said repeatedly that you are from an upper-middle class (or higher) background. You are now a grad student at JHU, one of the elite schools.

More specifically, you might be interested in looking into the "bubble test" available on the internet. It asks questions like "have you ever worked in a factory?" and so forth (the point is cultural isolation). My own questions would be "Did you grow up in a blockbusted neighborhood? Has the next door neighbor in your childhood environs ever slit her husband's throat with a kitchen knife? Have you ever had a relative killed by thugs? How about a friend killed by thugs?" If so, your opinions about what causes what might show a little more moderation, rather than so vigorously insinuate white racism, privilege, and innocent black victimhood.

Now about age:

First, I respond to you because you are worth responding to. I am quite certain that you won't give an inch now, but sometime in the future, especially if you are ever compelled to leave the bubble, you may come to understand what I am saying.

And then . . .

"If you're not a liberal at age 20, you have no heart. If you're not a conservative at age 40, you have no brain" -- often attributed to Winston Churchill.

"If you're not a moderate by age 60, you are a case of arrested development." -- herewith attributed to Hamish Forbes

"The poor will always be with you." -- Always attributed to Jesus Christ
