So I moved to Baltimore in 2000 from Frederick, MD to attend college. Moved out in 2010 after I got a job offer in the DC area. Now I live in Calvert County.

Honestly I don't have many nice things to say about Baltimore. It's pretty much a ugly dirty city. I worked in downtown Baltimore for 4 years. I had my car broken into twice and stolen from once. The whole area just seems out of control. Like they need to come in with a bulldozer and destroy every square inch, hire the planners from HoCo to replan the city. They call it Charm City (REALLY, ARE YOU SERIOUS).

When I moved to Calvert County it was like going from Hell to Heaven. I got used to Baltimore so much that I realized I had became in a way "Hard". I work in the Southeast DC area and I would walk through that area to get coffee etc... People who I work around (NoVA people) say they are scared to walk around in Southeast and were amazed that I actually walked through Southeast. I remind them when I used to catch the 8 bus from downtown Baltimore all the way up to Towson University and a guy threatened to kill me because I looked at the money he was holding in his hand. I then proceeded to tell them another story on the 15X bus where a patron got into a fight with the bus driver and a passenger released a stream of pepper spray in the whole bus.

A guy that I work with now grew up in the bronx. He said he was taking his girl down to Baltimore (never been there). He took a wrong turn and the whole area went shady. He was actually getting scared when he saw those white pole mounted boxes with the police shields on them (cameras). I explained to him those are pretty common in bad areas (I'm assuming these are cameras).

When we moved to Calvert my wife and I were invited to a neighbor's house and they asked where we were from I said Baltimore. Everyone got quiet and a woman said "Oh so that's where you're from".

I'm not sure what the point of posting this after not having lived in Baltimore for 5 years, but I am glad you are happy in Calvert County. Enjoy.

Because I lived away from Baltimore long enough and in a new city to get a different perspective.

I'm on my 15th year living in Baltimore City and I love it. It has its quirks, but it is a great place to live. Glad you're happy where you are OP.

OP, for one thing you don't live in a new "city" you live in Owings, a census tract/Zip Code.

As far as your opinion, the way you ***** and moan about living in Calvert County on that other forum I don't understand how you get away describing it as "Heaven".

Been to the Twin Beach Library lately?

To each their own. I grew up in a tiny town, hours from any major city. I prefer downtown Baltimore, where I live now, to any small town anywhere-I don't think I could ever move back. Honestly, my main "issue" with Baltimore is that it's still too small for my taste.

LOL...a pretty funny read. Charm City's also called "the City that Bleeds," which appears appropriate considering it already has 15 murders this year.

Yep,

No motto fits this city well and every one they thought of just sound f----- sarcastic.

"The city that Reads" = Oh yeah you qualify some how with your low H.S grad rate and high dropout rate.

"Charm City" = WHAT, you mean when you go down there and get mugged. Or the panhandler that takes a **** on the side of the road.

What's sad are some of the historic monuments that had gone to ****. I was interested in visiting the Poe house. Guess what, it's in the ghetto. You see a whole bunch of ****ty rowhomes and on the very end you see the Poe house. The city doesn't want to subsidize the house (yep The city that reads).

As I'm planning a relocation from overseas to this city, I'm a bit scared about this read.
Is Baltimore so dangerous?
Can you be safe just avoiding to walk out in the evening?
