Not necessarily, different hospitals specialize in different diseases/medical conditions.

I don't think there is a hospital in the country that is better than Hopkins, and the only one that is really on the same level as Hopkins is the Mayo Clinic. Two that come very close are the Texas Medical Center in Houston and the Cleveland Clinic. Don't forget we have another hospital complex here in Baltimore, the Univ of Maryland, which like the ones you mentioned (Mass General, Penn, UCSF) is also highly regarded.
Off topic but I heard Unversity of Maryland is better than JHH for transplants. However, University of Maryland is not the same caliber as MGH, Penn or UCSF.

Hahaha......that's a good one. Best joke I've heard all year! Unless it's changed drastically, downtown Baltimore is more dead than an abandoned ghost-town on the weekends/evenings. Outside of the hip Powerplant live and families and teens walking around the inner harbor (which is stretching 'downtown'), where is all this action downtown???

Can rival Boston, Philly, or DC??? Another good joke. With a joke of a 4 stop subway that 90% of people have never seen? If I wanted to get from Mt. Vernon to Canton quickly and didn't have a car, how would I get there quickly via public transportation? You can't claim to be in the same league as other major cities with that joke of a subway. How many full scale grocery stores are in downtown Baltimore? In my neighborhood in the north side of Chicago alone, I have a Trader Joes, Mariano's (equivalent of Wegmans), and Jewel (our Safeway/Giant) with in a 5-10 walk. If you're in downtown Baltimore you can't even walk to a real grocery store easily. There's a Safeway in Canton and a Whole Foods in harbor east, but if I lived in traditional downtown Baltimore what access to a major grocery store do you have without a car??? It's really strange. And this is a city that can rival the ones you mentioned??? Funny!

Especially with crime spiraling upward lately, Baltimore clearly isn't for everyone. None the less, it has worked for me. I moved to Baltimore in the mid 80's, survived the 1990's, and have held on long enough to experience lots of growth in Central and North Baltimore since 2000. I'm also always looking for a bargain - and Baltimore housing is a bargain! I live in a big house with a $500 a month mortgage. I'm also not particularly adverse to living near guys hanging on the streets. They are everywhere around where I live, but they don't pay much attention to me or me to them. The best thing about the place for me is that there is never a dull moment. So if you are like me - and hardly anybody is - Baltimore is a great place to live.

PS: I met a neighbor in the next block last week who move here from DC in order to buy a big cheap house. It happens, but it would be nice for the city to not have to depend so much on low prices. I grew up in the DC suburbs, which I can't stand.

Your house may be less expensive but aren't your property taxes pretty miserably high?

It must've changed drastically, because, as I said before, Downtown Baltimore active Days/night/weekends. "bu.. bu.. but is you take way Powerplant.....," you sound silly with all of your little caveats, so I'm removing them. The Inner Harbor is Directly across the street from Baltimore's Central Business District, how is it not part of downtown???

Who are you expecting to walk around the tourist sections of Baltimore during non-work hours???

Yes!!! Baltimore can rival Boston, Philly and DC. We can mix and match activities if you'd like.

Under $1,300 for my house, though the new neighbor in the next block may pay twice that. Anyway, the relatively low taxes on my house are what keeps the mortgage payment around $500.00. A House like mine will also need to average nearly 2k per year in upkeep to keep in the same condition. Other than the inherent energy efficiency of a rowhouse setup, my house isn't particularly efficient. I pay pretty average utility bills and high car insurance rates.

That's not bad. I guess when I said high taxes I more meant tax rate.

I have a 100 year old SFH and don't spend $2K most years on maintenance/upkeep so I have to ask what you're spending it on. Mine also isn't particularly energy efficient but, in all honesty, that's OK. It has the original windows and 1950ish storm windows. I wish they'd kept the original storms around, better system although storage is a pain.

High car insurance is a given in Baltimore.

Lots if nice pics of Baltimore. How did that picture of the Philadelphia skyline get in there? It is the picture right next to the picture of the entrance of the Hunt Valley Inn.

I took that pic when I went to the "Taste of 3 Cities" in Philly. It's a food truck competition between Baltimore, Philly and DC.

How did you know that I was standing in front of the Hunt Valley Inn? Pretty good observation.

I was joking calling Powerplant Live hip Guess it is to you though.
Canton, Fells Point, Federal Hill has decent nightlife, but that's not downtown.
Those pictures don't prove downtown Baltimore is packed with nightlife in the evenings.
Also, I like how you dodged Baltimore's shortcomings I mentioned compared Boston, Philly, and DC.
