Only 42% of city residents have had at least one Covid vaccine so obviously a long way to go to get to Mayor Scott's goal. Just to clear up any confusion - mask mandate remains here for all indoor businesses including all public transportation and outdoor venues.

For those reading and still have not been vaccinated please do so. The sooner we get to the 65% the better. Sadly I think this will take at least a couple of months.

Do you think you will get there?

My county crapped out at 31%. Hopefully opening the vaccine up to younger teens will help, but short of mandates, I am pretty sure a majority of people out here will not be vaccinated.

I'm hopeful but I predicted "at least a couple of months." That leaves the door open but I think it will happen.

Great point on the younger people as I hope to see the end of this madness. Those who still refuse to get vaccinated, and there are obviously many, are voting to keep the virus going. Or at least in present time, the dreaded mask mandate...

MoCo hit 60% yesterday. HoCo is even higher and closing in on 65%. Based on national polling, I'd guess Baltimore's problem isn't hesitancy nearly as much as it's getting people over the real and perceived hurdles to access.

Hopefully we're quickly reaching the point where pharmacies and grocers start setting up tables at the front of stores, actively enticing people to grab a shot real quick, rather than having their clinics in the back by appointment only, for example. Mobile clinics to set up shop in front of a pool on Saturdays or at the harbor on Sundays or in apartment building lobbies during the work week, etc. would be a logical next step, as well. Heck, much of Baltimore is compact enough that knocking on doors and offering the shot is a viable option.

Clinics are a near daily option up here now. Smaller communities are having them, many require no preregistration.

Of course our Commissioners went with Hogan and lifted the mask mandate in our county, even though we are nowhere near 70% of adults vaccinated. I am sure we will never get there. The stuff I have heard makes my brain hurt. One lady talking to wife said she wasn't going to get the shot "because it hurt and the needle was really big." When my wife explained it was a small needle and didn't hurt much, she replied "Oh well I know 2 people who have DIED from the vaccine, so I probably still won't get it."

Really? Lead with needle size and then announce you know two people who died of reactions to the vaccine? Another family friend's mom has really bad allergies, took like 4X the recommended dose of cough medicine and started 'tripping.' My friend and his sibs were convinced their mom was having a vaccine reaction........4 weeks after the 2nd dose.

Yeah, breaking through hesitancy is an even bigger lift. Maybe we could just print a couple million "Trump got his vaccine in January - be around to vote for him in 2024 by getting yours too!" flyers? Or maybe primary care doctors will have better luck one-on-one as more offices start getting doses?

Connecting getting vaccinated with supporting Trump's "Operation Warp Speed" or somehow "owning liberals" would probably get some results.

Many people I have spoken with don't "believe" in the virus at all though. It is somehow both a Chinese government plot to kill us all and a globalist fiction to take our freedoms away at the same time.

In Baltimore? You think that would work?

You'll be offended (don't care) but one of your problems analyzing the Baltimore vaccine hesitancy, as well as partially the Western Maryland one, is you're thinking of it as an affluent, middle/upper middle class, suburban individual.

What is in bold is not necessary to get the vaccine. I don't consider myself any of that and many blue collar types, which a good portion of Baltimore is made of, aren't either. But I am pro-science, have common sense, and do think for myself. I think there are enough citizens here that know getting the vaccine is the right thing to do to reach the goal and more important try to put an end to this nasty virus but as mentioned, not guaranteed.

You misinterpreted what I meant. He was questioning the vaccine reluctance of certain population cohorts from the starting point of being an affluent, middle/upper middle class, suburban resident. Looking at it with that mindset makes refusal to be vaccinated (for anything, not just Covid) incomprehensible.
