Looking for Bay Shore Park (Baltimore, Dundalk: homes, price, law)

The Setting Sun Walkers, braving the heat and insects that kept buzzing us like kamikaze pilots, walked in North Point State Park this morning. We did an abbreviated walk, deciding to return in the fall when the weather is cooler.
If you have never been to this peninsula that juts into the Chesapeake near Dundalk, you can easily make a day trip out of it. Here is what is on offer:

I thought I had been to the park before, but apparently not. Also, nearby are the grounds of Fort Howard, a historic site which used to have a VA hospital. (In looking for North Point Park, I got lost and ended up there. Looked interesting enough so that it may be another walk destination).
I had always heard how Baltimoreans used to escape summer heat by taking the trolley to Bay Shore Park between the the early 1900s and WWII. I never knew where it was. Well, today I saw its remnanrts near North Point Park's visitors center.

After our walk, we retired to Swan Inn (that's what it was called, I think) on Millers Island Road. The lunch was robust and the price very reasonable.
That area is like going back maybe 70 years. Winding roads. You can almost see revenooers chasing bootleggers.

I went out there for the first time a couple of years ago. We described it correctly..it was like going back in time. I loved it. Did you read the recent articles in The Sun about North Point becoming part of the 1812 Bicentennial Trails that GW Bush put 2mil into? I need to check the area out in a little more detail. Apparently the tree where the 2 teenage boys/snipers shot and killed the Brit General from is still there, as well.

I read The Sun's story, which claimed that North Point Park had not been included in the Bush administration's preservation plans. The next day the paper ran a well-hidden correction: "Although a law signed by President Bush this spring doesn't specify the exact sites to be covered, a park service feasibility study found that the North Point locations met the criteria for the Star-Spangled Banner National Historical Trail. The superintendent of the Fort McHenry National Monument, Gay Vietzke, said this week that North Point will be included in the trail and that park service officials will soon begin a process to develop the trail and identify 'individual places that the public can go.' The Sun regrets the errors."

The Dundalk-Patapsco Neck Historical Society & Museum, Inc. has a wealth of research materials on Old Bay Shore, New Bay Shore and the entire Patapsco Neck region. You can phone them at 410-284-2331, or stop by the little museum at 4 Center Place -- across from the post office -- in the Dundalk Town Center to arrange a research session.

This is a very historical area that has almost all been forgotten. Sept 1814 British soldiers would land and travel northward to Baltimore. Very decisive that General Ross was mortally wounded and the brave defenders prevent the British to advance. Long before Air-conditioning many city patrons fled to Bayshore Park for summer fun. Bethlehem Steel had streetcars that moved commuters to and form the shore. Beth steel had their own company town as well. Yesterday I drive down Millers Island and so the famous "Worcesters' all gone. Nice to see the state took over the park. A word to mention is that their were places like Stanton's shore and Kimbelry Pleasure Club all vanished.
