I'm retiring on a modest income and thinking of buying a condo in Baltimore City, where the taxes are very high. I will be 65 in 3 years. Does anyone know of any real estate tax breaks for seniors citizens in Baltimore City?

I think Maryland would just as soon see senoir citizens leave. Few if any breaks. Oh sure you can defray your property taxes but your heirs will have to pay them plus interest ( hefty % too) which could end up being more than the real estate is worth.
We will retire in a few years and believe me it is time to get out of one of the highest Tax rates in the country # 9 out of 50 was the last report.

I'm a little late to the game, but here's an answer anyway:

There used to be a property tax credit for seniors, but it has morphed into the Homeowners' Property Tax Credit Program, available to anyone who's household income is less than $60k. There is also an asset test.

More info here:

and the 2009 application here: www.dat.state.md.us/sdatweb/HTC-60.pdf

Maryland can be a great place to retire, and more and more people are starting to discover that.
