We enjoyed Abel's on Mt. Desert Island in the 1970's and 80's. We're planning a trip back to the area this summer and hope to return to the pound. It seems that the place was closed for a number of years but has reopened with a different menu from what I remember. Is it as good as it was a number of years ago?
I haven't been to Abel's before, and haven't been to Mt Desert Island in at least 5 years, probably more - it was getting too crowded for me. But when I was still going, two lobster places I liked were Beal's Lobster Pier, in Southwest Harbor, and Thurston's Lobster Pound, in Bernard. Both were right on the water on their harbors, and both had good food, including of course, lobstah. You couldn't go wrong with either one.
