Whether you've been reading my ramblings since 1996 or just since last week, you have my profound, impossible-to-express-in-words gratitude. There is not a working writer on Earth who's more grateful than I for his readers. Without you, I would have nothing.
Today, I hand off this space to whoever's next. I don't know yet who is next, but I'm highly confident that this blog and the SweetSpot Network will soon be in excellent hands.
Meanwhile, I'll be around. The kids tell me it's all about search these days. You won't have to search real hard to find me, if you want.
Happy trails, until we meet again.
Neyer was an interesting writing who brought advanced statistics to the mainstream through his work at ESPN.
I'm certainly curious as to what is behind this move.
Contract dispute?
Neyer doesn't mention what is next on his plate, so apparently this wasn't a situation where he is being lured away by a better offer.
Neyer thanks his readers, but doesn't thank ESPN, which hints at some sort of animosity. Was he fired, but allowed to announce that he was quitting?
The news was out of the blue, no advance warning or explanation as to why. I cannot think of a better, more high profile job to hold for someone like Neyer, so I suspect that this was not a pleasant departure.
